Alan has more than 30 years experience in credit risk mitigation, deal structuring and portfolio management in several sectors within the Energy and Commercial Finance Industries.
His expertise includes structuring effective risk mitigation and portfolio management programs for an 11,500 MW multi-fuel, geographically diverse, investor-owned integrated utility, as well as a 16,000 MW competitive/merchant generation portfolio.
• Negotiated credit provisions for 250+ ISDA, EEI, NAESB, GISB, WSPP and PPA contracts, providing trading liquidity for 30+ power and gas traders in PA and MT.
• Negotiated 250+ inbound and outbound parental guarantees, letters of credit and netting agreements with counterparties to credit support of multi-location trading operations. • Achieved $200K annual cost savings by leading coalition of New England ISO market participants to modify ISO FERC Order 741 financial statement reporting requirements. • Ensured minimal business disruptions by renegotiating and transitioning nearly 100 counterparties Letters of Credit (LC), including ISO’s/RTO’s, natural gas pipelines, WSPP members and structured wind and solar projects while managing transition from investment grade Credit facilities to high yield Credit facilities, in 90 days. |
Alan was then recruited by PJM Interconnection to become their Lead Credit Risk Analyst where he led PJM’s implementation process of FERC newly mandated credit policy, commonly referred to as Tariff Attachment Q https://agreements.pjm.com/oatt/4955
• Created and underwrote, holistic fundamental, credit risk analysis reviews of new market applicants, existing markets participants and designated entity applicant using PJM's FERC approved credit scoring model,
• Liaised between internal PJM market, client and operational groups and external market participants/applicants to assess, evaluate and resolve credit risk and operational issues • Reactive Power – Developed, investigated and researched holistic credit risk profile and refund estimate of reactive power portfolio |
Prior to becoming active in the energy industry in 1999 with PP&L, Inc. (now PPL Corporation), Alan was a credit risk and portfolio manager in the Asset Based Lending and Structured Finance industry with Chrysler First, AT&T Capital and Finova Capital.
