RANDY ROY - Associate
Randy is a serial entrepreneur and strategist with over 30 years of energy industry experience. Randy started his career as an energy economist, building forecast models to predict coal and electricity market prices using supply/demand models, for utility companies and consulting firms. He transitioned to the trading industry, applying those same analytical tools to the electricity and natural gas trading industry and adding more statistical analytical tools to his toolbox. He built and directed the analytical team that provided guidance for short-term trading and developed tools that drove corporate strategy related to both physical and financial trading.
Randy transitioned to a more commercial role where he applied his analytical tools to the acquisition and development of longer-term assets and structured transactions. Focusing on finding opportunity at the confluence of trading, asset ownership, operation, and divestiture. His more recent work includes the following:

• Directed the development of an electricity market clearing model that is currently used to clear buyers and sellers across 13 utility
transmission systems in the southeastern U.S. every 15 minutes. • Advised start-up trading company regarding the overall electricity market in the U.S. • Developed trading strategy for ethanol terminal located in Baltimore • Built cash-flow model for start-up hydrogen production company to optimize location relative to customer demand and electricity market pricing • Developed new machine learning and artificial intelligence tools that drastically improves the operating efficiency of large chillers in commercial buildings • Negotiated the supply of 150 mw of electricity for green methanol manufacturer • Led the development, construction, and operation of an ethanol terminal in Baltimore • Served on the Board of Directors of ethanol plant in Illinois, raising $30 million to complete project construction |
